Bloggers Quilt Festival Fall 2014 – Large Quilt

IMG_1701

I know this quilt is a little older, but I was rearranging rooms this fall and came across it (in a sadly underused room) and fell in love all over again. The colours are so bright and happy, especially with the weather turning gloomy outside.

The fabrics are from V and Co’s Simply Color, one of the best fabric lines ever! I am hording all my scraps from this line as I don’t come across it often now.

HST BOM Quilting

This quilt was made as part of the In Color Order HST BOM. I think the colors work so well with this pattern and it came together wonderfully. My daughter loves all the colours and it is a great quilt to snuggle in this fall as I am in denial that winter is coming!

HST BOM Quilt Back

The quilting follows the chevrons from the backing fabric. I like the simplicity of it and how the angles in the quilting goes well with the angles in the blocks on the front of the quilt.

Baby Breezy

Baby Breezy

I have been working on another baby quilt and thankfully have this one finished before the deadline!  It is nice to not feel as pressured and coming down the wire to finish this one as the I did with the Celebrate Dr. Seuss quilt last week.  It was great to make such and easy simple quilt.  I love the pattern and had wanted to make it for a while – it was well written and easy to follow, which was great as I am still recovering from exam marking!

Breezy ElephantFor this quilt I collected grey and yellow fabrics over the last 6 months or so then pulled out 6 that I thought went well together to make this quilt.  The baby’s room is done in grey and yellow with an elephant theme, so I tried to pull that into the quilt with the fabrics – including fussy cutting out these cute little elephants for the middle of the squares.

Breezy backing

The backing is a super soft cuddle fabric with grey and yellow chevron – it worked perfectly with the front!  The quilting was done using my walking foot and alternating between straight lines 1/4 inch off the seems and a chevron running through the coloured strips to add a little more interest.

The little one who will be receiving this quilt is due June 6th, so I have a little time to breath with this one!  Now to start on the next quilt for the baby due in August – first step is to find a design.

Quilt stats:

Pattern: Breezy from Growing up Modern (also sold individually by Cluck Cluck Sew)

Fabrics: Mix from various places and lines

Backing: Chevron Cuddle fabric

Binding: Kona Medium Grey

Simply HST

Wow, August is turning into a month of finishes for me, which is great.  I love seeing all these quilts come together, yay.

HST BOM Quilt

This week I managed to get all the binding and labelling finished for my Half Square Triangle Block of the Month (HST BOM) quilt from In Color Order’s BOM.  She did the BOM in 2012, but I was not able to start my quilt until January of this year.  I was trying to be good and keep it as a BOM, but in June I got excited and started going ahead.  I am happy I did as I love how it all turned out and that I will have this bright happy quilt for the fall and winter.

I did the quilt using Simply Color fabric line from V and Co.  I love this fabric and all the happy colors in it.

HST BOM Quilt Back

The backing is rainbow chevrons from Riley Blake in large.  This took a little planning as I needed to piece it and I didn’t want the seam to be noticeable.  I managed to get it pretty close but not perfect – no one has noticed so far, lol.

HST BOM Quilting

For the quilting i wanted to stick with something with angels to go with all the triangles on the front.  I decided to quilt it with straight lines in a chevron pattern.  To make things easy, I simply followed the chevrons on the back (and quilted it upside down which was interesting to make sure I didn’t hit any pins!).

Quilt Stats:

Pattern: HST BOM from In Color order

Fabric: Simply Color layer cake, + Kona Snow

Backing: Large Rainbow Chevrons, Riley Blake

WIP Wednesday

It seems I have too many projects that I am working on as I still have no finishes for the summer, even though I have been on holidays for a couple weeks.  I have been making some progress on a few projects finally though!

I have one quilt that has now been basted (my Hawaiian windows quilt that I started over a year ago).  Hopefully that means I can finish this quilt before the end of the summer as I was hoping to use it as a picnic blanket.

Windows to Hawaii, Basting

I also have a quilt on the machine being quilted this week, yay!  This is actually the back of the quilt that you can see in the picture.  I decided that I wanted to follow the chevrons on the backing for my quilting, so I have been quilting it upside down.  It is going really well and I haven’t run over a pin yet, fingers cross that continues.

QuiltingI have also been working on blocks for my quilt Bee.  Thankfully I have them done just before the deadline!
